Coats and Whitney Vineyard
All fruit for CAW Pinot Noir is from the Coats and Whitney Vineyard, a family-owned, sustainably-farmed, 10 acre site nestled in the low hills of the Yamhill-Carlton Viticulture District midway between the townships of Carlton and Yamhill. Established in 2003, the vineyard sits at 500 feet and is planted exclusively to Pinot Noir with clones of Pommard and Wadenswil. The soils are Willakenzie, which are characteristically coarse-grained, ancient marine sediments that drain quickly establishing a natural moisture deficit that promotes early ripening. These soils on gently sloping Eastern, Western and Southern exposures, give the vineyard its distinctive character producing wines of complexity and minerality.
Coats and Whitney Vineyard has been certified by LIVE (Low Input Viticulture and Enology) as a Certified Sustainable vineyard. We completed our seventh consecutive certification by LIVE that includes extensive reporting and testing in the vineyard. LIVE is a not-for-profit organization that provides education and certification for vineyards and wineries. LIVE uses international standards of sustainable viticulture and enological practices in both wine-grape and wine production. |
